Item Description:

PROPERTY OF A DISTINGUISHED COLLECTOR

Acrylic on canvas

47 7/8 x 59 7/8 in. (121.5 x 152.1 cm.)

Signed 'Husain' upper right

'One of the most revealing aspects of an artist's work is his sense of the past: his capacity to assimilate in his mind and being the consciousness of his race, and his ability to direct the totality of that awareness through the filter of his creative imagination into an engagement with the contemporary situation. This instinctual absorption of the past is a measure of his cultural rootedness and also of his artistic originality. Originality is not a matter of disowning tradition, nor is it the shaping of forms which have not existed before in life or art. Originality consists in the artist's capacity to confront the present through the collective vision of his country's past, and to bring to it the total experience of history in such a way as to open up new perspectives of thought and feeling.' (S. A. Krishnan, 'M. F. Husain', Lalit Kala Contemporary 27, Delhi, 1979, p. 20)

# Import duty at 11% will be charged on the hammer price and GST will be applicable on the total amount of the hammer price plus the import duty.
