PROPERTY FROM THE FAMILY OF A RENOWNED MUMBAI ARCHITECT
Acrylic on canvas
43 x 74 3/4 in. (109.3 x 189.8 cm.)
Signed in Devanagari and Urdu upper left
'I have always had a feeling, and it is now confirmed, that Husain draws in paint and thinks entirely in colour. This accounts greatly for the texture of his work and for the iridescent quality of the delineation of the form and design. He operates wholly on the canvas and in this sense sifts and crystalizes the image on the canvas, building up the entire work on the canvas.'
(S. A. Krishnan, 'M. F. Husain', Lalit Kala Contemporary 27, Delhi, 1979, p. 21)
Please see the previous lot for a detailed discussion on Husain's horses.
The colours of the original are less saturated and whiter than the catalogue illustration. The painting has been recently cleaned. Overall good condition.
