About The Artist:

Originally founded in 1756 by Akim Maltsov, a well-known glass merchant, in the Vladimir region of Russia, the Gus Khrustalny Glass Factory was constantly attuned to Western tastes and trends. The artisans studied many of the techniques used by the best Austrian and Bohemian lead glass workers, and produced high-quality works in 24% lead glass, allowing it to confidently cut intricate designs without breakage. The company, also known as The Gus Crystal Works, was patronized by the Tsars and received a Grand Prix at the 1900 Universal Exhibition in Paris. There is now a famous glass museum in the town where this famous company, now closed, was located.
