About The Artist:

Project Mercury, led by NASA, (1959-1963) was the first human space flight program led by the United States of America. Seven astronauts, known as the "Mercury Seven," were selected to participate in this program: Malcolm Scott Carpenter, Leroy Gordon "Gordo" Cooper, Virgil Ivan "Gus" Grissom, Walter Marty "Wally Schirra, Jr., John Herschel Glenn, Jr., and Donald Kent "Deke" Slayton. In May 1961, Alan Shepard made a sub-orbital flight and became the first American in space. He went on to join the Apollo program and became the only Mercury astronaut to walk on the moon.
