PORTABLE TEA CEREMONY SET - Fine Quality Cha-no-yu Traveler's Matcha Tea Ceremony Set, assembed with great taste and refinement by a good tea shop or Cha-jin, late Edo period. Housed in a cinnabar neguro (black rubbed) lacquer lidded box with woven grass panels, preserved in an early striped silk bag of very shibui (subtle and elegant) taste. The contents consist of a Mino Yaki Chawan (tea bowl) in cloth bag; PLUS Cha-ire (tea container) in brown glaze, with ivory gilt lined lid, signed, in a bag; PLUS old Arita porcelain tea cloth holder in lobed form, with blue and white decoration in the Chinese taste (may double as a hanaike, or flower holder); PLUS the Whisk, housed in a hollow red painted bamboo section, (which doubles as a futaoki, or lid rest); PLUS Cha-saku or tea scoop of bamboo in fabric bag; PLUS an 18th c. Chinese Porcelain Snuff Bottle decorated with raised oxide Shi-Shi, for use as a Kog (incense container), chosen for the aesthetic of "old Chinese things". The box is 5" x 5" x 5". Very good condition. A fine collection.
