About The Artist:

Paul Sawyier was an American impressionist painter from Kentucky. He studied at McMicken School of Design (now the Art Academy of Cincinnati) as well as the Art Students League of New York. Sawyier's primary medium was watercolor; he is best known for his paintings of the Kentucky River done at the turn of the 20th century. These watercolor paintings are considered historical documentation by some scholars. In 1913, Sawyier became a resident of an artistic community in the New York Catskills, where he lived in a converted chapel until his death.
