About The Artist:

Michael Johnson was born in Illinois in 1949. He is a self-taught photographer who takes inspiration from European Master painters of the 17th century, and his photography continues to be shaped by the landscapes he captures, especially in Illinois where he owns a large farm. Johnson has been photographing rural America for more than thirty-five years. He is a traditional large format photographer, producing silver/gelatin prints from view camera negatives. His large black and white photographs have been exhibited throughout the United States, Asia, and Europe. They are acquired by museums, corporations, hospitals, and private collectors. His photographs can be found in the Art Institute of Chicago, The Santa Barbara Museum of Art, The Illinois State Museum and the Gibbes Museum of Art in South Carolina.
