Menjual Ikan (Selling Fish)

Menjual Ikan (Selling Fish)

Item Description:

The painter Soetopo was born in Yogjakarta in April, 193. After completing his education at ASRI Yogjakarta in the 1950s, Soetopo joined Sanggar Pelukis Rakyat, which was founded by Hendra Gunawan, and studied under the guidance of Hendra Gunawan, Trubus, and Soedarso. Using a style akin to realism, he presents the themes of daily activities and social realities that exist around Javanese society. His paintings reflect his personal life, which is simple and unpretentious.
In this painting a couple of women are sitting not far from a beach where there are fishing boats and some fishermen. While waiting for buyers, the women are engaged in a conversation, while one is carrying an eel, which she has sorted from other fish in their basket.
