Product Description:

Portfolio with series of 24 color woodblock prints.

Each print is signed in the plate by Busset. Text in French.

This portfolio serves as a memorial to the artist's brother, to whom the work is dedicated, who perished at the front during World War I. The "Flights and Combat" set commemorate the pilots of that global conflagration and each plate has text detailing the battles, on the reverse.

Dimensions:

Height 13 in. x Width 19.75 in.

Condition:

Some toning and foxing consistent with age. Some paper loss along margins that does not extend to the images. Reverse of many plates reinforced with linen tape.

About The Artist:

Maurice Busset (1879-1936) was an artist best known for his tableaux and landscape engravings of the Auvergne countryside, as well as for his paintings of Moroccan women. A frequent contributor to the Salon de l'Automne, Busset began displaying his works at the Salon des Independants beginning in 1911.
