About The Artist:

Lucius A. Crowell was born in Chicago in 1911. Fundamentally a realist painter, he nonetheless imbued his scenes with a sense of romanticism. During his life he exhibited at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum, and the National Academy of Art in Washington, D.C., among others. He traveled extensively and lived in Rome from 1955-1956, the imagery of which he often returned to in following years. His work is in permanent collections at the Boston Museum of Fine Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and other public and private institutions. He died in Charlestown Township, PA, in 1988.
