About The Artist:

René Jules Lalique (1860-1945) was a French glass designer known for his creations of glass art, perfume bottles, vases, jewelry, chandeliers, clocks and automobile hood ornaments. Lalique's early life was spent learning the methods of design and art that he would use in the future. At the age of two, his family moved to a suburb of Paris, France, but traveled to Aÿ, Marne, for summer holidays. These trips influenced Lalique's later naturalistic glasswork. Especially in the 1920s, he became noted for his distinct work in the Art Deco style, with strongly colored, organic objects. Frosted glass is made by the sandblasting or acid etching of a clear sheet of glass. It has the effect of rendering the glass translucent by scattering light during transmission, thus blurring images while still transmitting light. This process forms an uneven surface, imitating what "frosting" would look like on smooth surfaces.
