About The Artist:

Joel Philip Myers studied ceramics in Denmark and then at New York College of Ceramics located at Alfred University. where his body of work largely focused on industrial design. During his tie in school, Myers attended the Toledo Glass seminars in 1961 and 1962, which many belive launched the American studio Glass movement .After his studies, in 1963 he joined Blenko Glass as the director of design where he began experiments with blowing glass. In 1970, he left Blenko to establish an influential glass art program at Illinois State University.

Myer's glass began with vivid cylindrical forms in the early 70s. By the late 1970s, the artist was creating handforms, his first dabblings with sculpture. His experiments with representation and abstraction of the human form, broke away from the traditional blown glass vessels other glass artists were creatin at the time.
