JEFF KOONS, Resin Sculpture "Balloon Venus"

JEFF KOONS, Resin Sculpture "Balloon Venus"

Item Description:

Jeff Koons (American, b. 1955). Iconic Dom Perignon resin sculpture "Balloon Venus". Lacquered poly resin, cast in two sections. About 24" x 13" x 14". In 2013, Jeff Koons was commissioned by Dom Perignon to create a special limited edition sculpture to house their 2003 “Vintage Rosé.” Koons recreated his “Balloon Venus Magenta” in a smaller size with a special interior for the bottle. Included also is a slip-cased two-volume set of Koons' work. The cover image of the sculpture volume is, naturally, Balloon Venus. The work was inspired by the famous Paleolithic statuette, the “Venus of Willendorf,” supposedly created between 22,000 and 24,000 BCE. The artist’s calculated use of this famous stone-age fertility totem as a highly reflective champagne holder shows his mastery in reinterpreting Pop ideas for a new generation. Koons is currently the most expensive living artist in history. An example of Balloon Venus was offered at Phillips London in June, 2015 and brought 74,500 GBP (USD$116,400).
