Item Description:

"Gray's Elegy at Stokes Poges, Kent" (actually Stoke Poges, South Bucks, Buckinghamshire) after the 1851 poem by English poet Thomas Gray (1716-1771), oil on canvas, signed and dated 1883 lower right, with title on old handwritten label verso bearing an original price of $400. Also has label from Berger Art Conservation, Inc., 1014 Madison Ave., New York. In gold painted cove frame, SS: 28" x 51 1/2", OS: 33" x 56 1/2". Actual canvas size is 28" x 52". This painting appears in the second volume of the Catalogue Raisonne, which came out recently, published by the Newington-Cropsey Foundation of Hastings-on-Hudson, New York.
