GILT SILVER LADY'S BELT - Period Renaissance Mannerist Marriage Belt or Girdle, of solid silver with a fire gilt gold finish, consisting of articulated links featuring seven Greek or Roman coins, alternating with seven scroll and cartouche plackets, ending in double leaf form hooks, would have had a buckle and dangling chains, now lost. 25" long. 7.460 ozt. SI mark for Siena. These were made specifically for a wedding ceremony, ordered as part of a dowry only when the bans were published.
