French Gilt Brass Eight-Day Time and Strike Figural Mantel Clock, ca. 1870-1880

Item Description:

Case: Gilt metal figural clock with Diana Goddess of the Hunt reclining on a golden throne over the clock dial, dressed with the accouterments of the hunt (sheathed knife, walking stick, water pitcher, etc.). She is surrounded by flora in the French Art Nouveau style. Below the dial is a frieze of large c-scrolls, leaves, vines and rosettes above a broad brass base with decorated skirt and scrolled foliate feet

Dial: Gilt medallion bezel overlies the white porcelain dial with Roman hour chapter and gilt fenestrated c-scrolled hands

Movement: Unsigned round solid brass late movement with anchor escapement, silk thread suspension, outside countwheel pointing to a pre-1880 movement construct. The double barrel spring movement is of eight-day duration with bell striking on the hour and half hour


The dial with hairline fractures and a chip repair around the time winding aperture. Minor wear to gilding appropriate to age. Please contact for specific condition questions. Note that Lofty does not guarantee the working condition of clocks.
