Item Description:

FRAMED JAPANESE SCROLL - 18th c. Portrait of Bodhidharma, a Buddhist monk known in Japanese as Daruma, Patriarch of Zen Buddhism, ink on silk, signed and with seal. In rosewood box frame, under glass, on a brocade mount, OS: 55 1/2" x 18 3/4", SS: 43 1/2" x 14". Light bends, spotting. Having a 1957 Rochester Times-Union article verso, showing the print with owner Mrs. John Van Voorhis, who obtained it on a trip to Japan with her husband Judge John Van Voorhis, of the New York Court of Appeals, in 1928.
