Product Description:

Case:
Painted porcelain and ormolu figural clock with two seated putti flanking the clock dial which is surmounted by a gilt floral wreath. The dial sits on a short pedestal with a porcelain enameled panel just below. The dial and figures rest on a horizontal gilt cornice over a Rococo-style gold polychromed framed panel of three young women at leisure in a garden setting, reminiscent of a Watteau painting. There is an architectural ornately decorated base below which rests on suppressed ball gold feet.

Dial:
A white enameled dial with blue Roman hour chapter within a gilt cartouche, closed minute ring, two winding apertures, gilt brass Louis XV style skeletonized hands and the name of the clockmaking firm at the very bottom of the dial.

Movement:
A classic round solid brass plate movement with two barrel springs of eight day duration and striking a silvered bell on the hour and half hour. An adjustable short French type pendulum and bob swing below the movement.

History:
Aubert & Klaftenberger was founded as a watchmaking firm in 1835 by two watch retailers, CJ Klaftenberger of London and DF Aubert of Geneva. The firm was favored.
by both Queen Victoria and Prince Albert as the supplier of watches to be presented as gifts.
Aubert & Klaftenberger received a Royal Warrant in 1859, and the firm was also a contributor to the horological section of the Great Exhibition of 1851, winning an Honorable Mention from the Jury.
Their main office and clockmaking workshop was in Switzerland, but they also opened offices in Paris and London in the mid-19th century. Aubert & Klaftenberger made clocks in Switzerland in the French style, similar to those being produced in Paris at the time.
