Edwardian 14K White Gold Diamond Frosted Crystal Brooch Pin

Edwardian 14K White Gold Diamond Frosted Crystal Brooch Pin

Item Description:

Victorian 14k white gold filigree brooch set with a center diamond in a fine frosted rock crystal setting. Delicate filigree and fine detail characteristic of period.

The Edwardian era derives its name from the reign of an English King, Edward VII (1901-1910). This is the final jewelry period appellation to be defined by a British monarch. Jewelry was an important part of the lifestyle cultivated by this extremely wealthy upper class. The stylistic elements of the Edwardian period are derived from eighteenth-century jewelry, with the Court of Versailles was inspiration. Jewelry went from large and ostentatious to ethereal and delicate almost overnight. Garlands and ribbons, laurel wreaths, bow knots, tassels and lace were rendered with a new lightness thanks to the advances made in platinum fabrication, and continued to be backed with gold. This brooch depicts the Edwardian ethereal-like qualities with it's delicate open scroll work around the stone itself.
