About The Artist:

Ed Moses is a pioneering American abstract artist and serial innovator. Moses enlisted in the Navy at 17 and some years later enrolled in Long Beach City College. He earned his MFA from UCLA in 1958. At UCLA, Moses studied with expressionist artist Rico Lebrun and Craig Kauffman who introduced him to curator and gallerist Walter Hopps. Alongside his business partner artist Edward Kienholz, Hopps mounted seminal exhibitions featuring Robert Irwin, Ken Price, Edward Ruscha, John Altoon, and Clyfford Still. In 1958, Hopps gave Moses the second show at Ferus Gallery featuring the artist's graduate work.

Moses has exhibited regularly for nearly sixty years. Over the course of his lengthy career, Moses has investigated the corners of his angst-ridden psyche. His work reflects his interest in the chaos of everyday life, process, and experimentation. He describes himself as "obsessed" and "compulsive". As he notes, "balance or harmony are things that are not of any interest to me. It’s really the adventure of going out every day, setting up the workers and myself, and what follows that preparation is chance and circumstance." Moses' grid paintings address this preoccupation with order, chance, pattern, and the gestural mark.
