Item Description:

EARLY 19TH C. HUDSON VALLEY PORTRAIT - "Mrs. James Ackerman." (Dutchess County, New York), oil on mahogany panel, identified on old handwritten label verso, in the original gold and mahogany ogee frame, OS: 38" x 32", SS: 29 1/2" x 23 1/2". Good condition, some minor flaking. Mrs. Ackerman (1764-1850), born Sarah Conklin, daughter of Isaac Conklin and Caroline van Benschoten, was the wife of Jacobus (James) Ackerman. (1759-1835) of New Hackensack/Wappingers Falls, NY. They had one son named Isaac. James served in David Burn's Regiment in 1803, was a Captain in the Rockland County, New York Militia by 1806.
