About The Artist:

Born in Motala, Sweden in 1869 or 1870, David Ericson immigrated to Duluth, Minnesota in 1873. Over the course of his career, Ericson studied under some of the greatest American painters of his day, first with William Merritt Chase at the Art Students League in New York and later with James McNeill Whistler in England at the turn of the 20th century. He went on to establish studios in Paris, New York and Provincetown in the 1920s through the 1940s. In 1946, he returned to Duluth and taught at the Duluth Art Institute, but died later that year.

Ericson's works often depict the scenery of the northern and eastern United States, as well as that of Northern Europe and England and reflect the influence of both Chase and Whistler. His paintings hang in the Tweed Museum, Duluth, the American Swedish Institute, Minneapolis, and numerous private collections.
