Product Description:

Well cast figure of Avalokiteshvara, also known as Guanyin (Quan Yin, Kwan Yin, Kuan Yin) in China; remnants of rich lacquer and gilding throughout, with much of it preserved on the face, late Ming Dynasty, ca. early 17th century

The Bodhisattva of Compassion sits upon a separately cast lotus pedestal in varjra asana, a warm and benevolent expression on his face. He is dressed in voluminous robes and festooned with jewels. An elaborate diadem graces his head, with an image of Amitabha at the center. A cup raised to chest level in one hand, the other hand in abhaya mudra, the gesture of reassurance.

Dimensions:

Height 11.5 in. x Width 6.25 in. x Depth 4.25 in.

Condition:

Fair. With some losses and cracks to the base of the figure. Much of the original lacquer and gilding worn off (please see images). Please contact cataloging@lofty.com for specific condition questions.
