Raza emerged from a gestural, spontaneous painter in the early part of his career to become a contemplative artist, who would sit for hours in front of his canvas allowing ideas to fully conceptualise in his mind before putting brush to canvas. His works in the second half of his career focused on the perfect balance and interaction between form and colour.
'Forms emerge from darkness. Their presence is perceptible from obscurity. They become relevant if their energy is orientated, through vision into form orchestration... The heartbeat of a painting depends on the right orchestration of these elements, and their variations. A vocabulary of Form develops naturally, the vision grows... Whatever direction the expression may take, the language of Form imposes its own inner logic, and reveals itself with infinite variations and mutations... This stage is total bliss, and defies analysis.' (The artist in conversation with Geeti Sen, Bindu: Space and Time in Raza's Vision, New Delhi, 1997, pp. 108-109)
The colours of the original are richer and deeper than the catalogue illustration.Overall good condition.
