BRANDED HERTER BROTHERS CABINET

Item Description:

C. 1880, A Japonesque aesthetic period cherrywood cabinet having a partial gallery pediment over an open shelf with original gilt backboard fabric and carved ring turned balustrade frontal supports with carved flower heads resting on full-length incised stiles. Full-width drawer over two half-drawers over double cabinet doors with circular linenfold carving centering a square brass escutcheon over 2- full-width drawers, resting on turned button feet, original through-out, h.64 x w.42 x d.20-1/4in.

Provenance: Likely purchased originally by the Van Duzer family of New York (as evidenced by writing on verso), the cabinet was then inherited by Henry Van Duzer Wing (1913-1983). It existed for many years in a bedroom of "Shadow Lodge," a guest house and part of "Sandanona," the Wing family lodge and shooting grounds in Millbrook, NY (now operated by Orvis). Then by descent in 1983 to Tolly English Wing Then by descent in 1990's to the current owner, a Weston, CT. gentleman.
