Item Description:

BOXED ENGLISH SEXTANT - Ebony and Bronze Sextant made by J. Bassnett of Liverpool, with paper label from dealer J. Sewill of the same town, in the original mahogany fitted case. Owner name scratched in maker's plate "E.H. Wood, 1856, Wisacasset, Me.", also inscribed in pencil on case. Includes two lenses. All optics intact. 4 1/2" x 12" x 13". Very good condition. James Bassnett worked as a optician, mathematical instrument maker, watch and clockmaker and chronometer maker in Liverpool (8 Roberts St.) from 1829-1857.
