BOARDROOM SHIP MODEL ON STAND - The American Warship "USS Essex", a 32-Gun Sailing Frigate, laid down in 1798, launched in 1799, she was the first US Navy ship to cross the equator. She was engaged in the First Barbary War and the War of 1812, was captured by the British at the Battle of Valparaisio on March 28th, 1814. She served as the HMS "Essex" as a warship until hulked in Oreland as a prison ship in 1823, was sold in 1837. 33 3/4" x 48" x 20" case on a 30" separate stand. Fine condition. From the former MBNA Corporate Collection.
