About The Artist:

Ben Cunningham was an American painter and educator born in 1904 in Cripple Creek, Colorado. He was one of 26 artists commissioned by the Public Works Art Project to paint murals in San Francisco's Coit Tower in 1934. Cunningham's work has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and he taught at the Cooper Union for several years in the 1970s. Working in tempera, oil, pastel, and watercolor, his painting style was representational until 1942, when he began to embrace abstraction.
