Item Description:

A beautiful Calima ceramic alcarraza, Colombia, c. 800 - 100 BC, zoomorphic in form with the head of a supernatural being as well as raised serpents on either side, another emerges from the back. The vessel sits on a flattened base with four small feet with incised details above, the double spouts regulated airflow through the vessel for pouring or drinking with central looped handle. Alcarazza vessels are primarily thought to have been used for storing chichi beer which was used on ceremonial occasions. 8 in (20.3 cm). Lovely red-orange surface and mottled deposits.
