About The Artist:

Born in Galicia, Spain in 1913, Angel Botello studied fine art and architecture in Bordeux, France and Madrid, Spain. Soon after Botello arrived in Madrid, he joined the Republican Army where he worked as a cartographer during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). In 1939, Botello and his family left Spain for the Dominican Republic. He went on to live in Haiti and ultimately settled in Puerto Rico. Botello's practice is informed by the vibrant communities and lively palette of the Caribbean.
