About The Artist:

As the ritual of afternoon tea became more elaborate, so did the services, adapting in size, style and opulence according to the era and wealth of the patron. Complete tea and coffee services with matching pots, creamers, sugar bowls and sometimes waste bowls, kettles and trays, rose in popularity in the 19th century, but have fallen out of use today.

In some parts of the world, people still take time to "host a tea" at home, using the occasion to display their elegant services to a gathering of friends or at charitable events. While the occasions and demand for domestic tea and coffee services have waned, especially in the 21st century, sets that exhibit high quality design are still highly sought after by discerning collectors.

This set is simple in design with subtly chased foliate cartouches. Dunkirk Silversmiths Inc. was in operation for a short time in the 1940s in Meriden, Connecticut.
