With oxidized frame, polished arc with inset silvered scale numbered in degrees, and mahogany handle, the brass arc with radial index arm engraved 'Keuffel & Essen New York and #56167'. model no. 5226, mounted in original mahogany case with green felt accents and a paper label with inscribed maker's name and location along with the model and serial numbers, fitted with two eyepieces, two sighting tubes and a repair tool, the Vernier scale along the arc read through a magnifying lens and moving via a thumb screw adjustment

About The Artist:

The firm of Keuffel & Esser dates from 1867. Both men of German origin first manufactured surveying instruments in 1885 in Hoboken, NJ. Offices were eventually opened in New York as well as other major American cities.
