About The Artist:

Alphonse Maria Mucha (1860-1899) was a struggling Czech artist living in Paris, France until 1895, when his poster “Gizmonda” (1894), designed for the iconic French actress Sarah Bernhardt, rocketed him to immediate fame and success. His “Style Mucha” had a significant impact on the French Art Nouveau movement.

Lefèvre-Utile, a French manufacturer of biscuits aimed at the luxury market, commissioned top artists to do their publicity. In addition to posters, Mucha also designed box tops, wrappers and other printed ephemera for the company. The black outlines in this work are typical of Mucha's later style.
