Artist Statement:

Branding and propaganda, personality and politics, slogans and slander have all taken over my life this year. Hell, I invited this stuff in. I turn on the news and don’t turn it off. Can I at make it something useful, today, right now? Yes, I think so, by flattening it and making something decorative. But useful too, a vessel to hold something beautiful.

They are part of my ongoing series of “Indestructible Artifacts,” which are pieces that should be used in order to fulfill their potential. They’re great on their own, as-is, but get better with use. In this case, they should be filled with water and flowers and used as a vase.

Literature:

Aaron Krach is an artist and writer based in NYC. He works with people, books, rocks, text, vodka, and frogs to make books, sculptures, prints, and installations. He exhibits in galleries, book fairs, and public spaces in cities large (Sao Paulo, NYC) and small (Lake Ohrid, Macedonia). More often his work is found in newspapers, email, T-shirts, and on book shelves. His first novel, “Half-Life,” was published by Alyson Books. Recent books include, “Almost Everything (Dark Pools),” 2015, which combines machine-printing and hand-made elements to transform a Mies Van der Rohe catalog (MoMA, 1977) into a shadow of the utopian original. “Richard Prince Cowboy” and “CHRIS” (both 2016) pay homage and attempt to undermine the star system whether in Hollywood or the so-called art world. He is a two-time recipient of a Lower Manhattan Cultural Grant for Public Art.
