Item Description:

1812 DOCUMENT SIGNED BY NAPOLEON AS EMPEROR - Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821), Military Appointment, ink on parchment, partly printed, signed on December 30, 1812, authorizing Jean-Joseph Dejoannis to continue in the service of the King of Westphalia, outlining conditions of service. The kingdom of Westphalia was created by Napoleon in August 1807. Following several years of political and financial upheaval, the kingdom was dissolved in 1813. Document boldly signed by Napoleon as Emporer, counter-signed by the French Minister of Justice, Claude Ambroise R_gnier, duc de Massa, (1746-1814) and the Secretary of State, Pierre-Antoine-NoÔl-Mathieu Bruno Daru, (1767-1829). Bauman Rare Books slip verso. Framed with an engraved portrait by Aristide Louis, dated 1841, after the Paul Delaroche 1838 painting. OS: 22" x 39". 15 1/2" x 21 1/2" document, 13 3/4" x 12 1/2" portrait. Very good condition. PLUS: Framed Bronze Plaque, "Napoleon Empereur", cast bronze bas relief of the period, unsigned, in black frame with engraved tag, bronze hanging chain, OS: 10 1/2" sq, SS: 7 1/4" sq.
