14K White Gold and Trilliant Cut Diamond Ring, circa 1960

14K White Gold and Trilliant Cut Diamond Ring, circa 1960

Item Description:

14K White Gold Lady's ring, circa 1960, with a large central Trilliant diamond (approx. 1.5-1.25 carat) surrounded by a shield border of 16 round diamond cut diamonds with an approx. weight of .30 carats. The center diamond is SI clarity, and I color. The side diamonds are H color.

A trilliant cut is a gemstone which is cut in a triangular shape, as the name suggests. The trilliant cut was introduced by the Asscher brothers in Amsterdam and was later trademarked by the Henry Meyer Diamond Company of New York in 1962. Now that the patent has expired, the term "Trilliant Cut" is used to refer to all triangular shaped gems. Triangular Brilliant and Triangular Modified Brilliant are the common terms used by GIA when referring to non-branded diamonds.
