William Wegman (b. 1943) is an American artist best known for his portraits of his Weimaraner dogs. Born in Holyoke, Massachusetts, he attended the Massachusetts College of Art and the University of Illinois. In the 1970s, he positioned his dog with humorous props and costumes and began to experiment with creating video shorts of his dogs. He later began using the Polaroid 20 x 24 camera in 1986. His videos and photos have appeared in a variety of films, advertisements, books, and television programs. He has also held numerous retrospectives and exhibitions, including at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis in 1981 and the Brooklyn Museum of Art in 2006.
