Train / Exposition des Artistes. 1938.
Occurring a few times in the 1930s, the Train-Exposition was literally a train filled with art that would travel along a designated route through rural France, displaying the works along the way. This particular poster advertises its five-day stop in Cambrai, where people could see four boxcars worth of decorative arts, sculptures, paintings, and drawings. Newspaper articles at the time call the exhibition as a “veritable museum,” allowing Western France, an area typically cut off from the Parisian art world, to experience that which is normally considered exclusive.
