Syd Solomon

Syd Solomon (1917-2004) was an American painter known for his gestural, abstract expressionist works derived from nature and his experimentation with acrylic paints and multilayered paintings. Born in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, he studied at the Art Institute of Chicago from 1935 to 1938.  In 1946, he settled in Sarasota, Florida, where his work came to the attention of the art community. He had regular exhibitions in New York at the Saidenberg Gallery and in Florida, he showed at the James David Gallery in Miami.  His works have been included in group shows at numerous institutions, including, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, and the Smithsonian.
