Item Description:

GEORGIAN ENGLISH STERLING AND OTHER SILVER SNUFF BOXES, LOT OF SEVEN, comprising a rectangular sterling example by Joseph Ash I of London with 1805 date mark featuring engraved "The R... Honble Lord Sinclair to / Capt Andrew Farmer / Berwick on Tweed / 1815" message surrounded by Masonic symbols to lid over an older buffed-out engraving, an engraved-decorated sterling example with "I B" maker's mark and 1814 date mark, an ovoid sterling example having an engraved monogram to top by Cornelius Bland of London with 1795 date mark, an example featuring engraved decoration of buildings having worn marks to interior, an unmarked example with "W.H.Van Tassel / From his Friends" engraved to top, an unmarked rectangular example with "S.S. Southhard / 1847" engraved to top, and an unmarked ovoid example with "D.B.H. / Hempsted." engraved to one side and "[S?]MV" engraved to the other. English examples with maker's marks and four hallmarks of a lion passant for sterling fineness, a crowned leopard's head city mark for London, a date mark, and a King George III duty mark. Total weight: 14.250 ozt. Late 18th/19th century.

Condition:

Good to very good overall condition with wear and surface scratches, other imperfections including denting, bending, and worn spots to decoration; Cornelius Bland example with repair to hinge of lid; example having building decoration with lid not closing all the way; unmarked ovoid example with interior residue.
