Philip Pearlstein

Philip Pearlstein (b. 1924) was a prominent member of the Contemporary American school of Realist painting, and is regarded as one of the greatest figurative artists of the 20th century. His work often includes multiple nude models in complex interiors characterized by contrasting colorful objects and unusual, oblique perspectives. Born in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, he studied at the Carnegie Institute of Technology's art school.  His early work consisted of Abstract Expressionist landscapes, and he later focused on human figures.  The artist has had many solo exhibitions and was a Guggenheim fellow in 1969.  In 2008, he was the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy in New York
