Peter Lik was born in 1959 in Melbourne, Australia, to Czech immigrants. A gift of a Kodak Brownie camera at age 8 led him on his path to explore photography and nature, constantly experimenting and coming up with his own techniques. In 1989, he embarked on a project to take pictures in all of the 50 United States, which eventually resulted in a book of photographs published in 2003, Spirit of America. Lik won the Windlind Smith Rice International Award in 2010 for his Art in Nature submission. His work has been exhibited at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. Peter Lik's eerily colorful and sometimes futuristic color photographs of landscapes and nature are in a class all their own.
