Peter Hurd

Peter Hurd (1904-1984),  born Harold Hurd Jr. in Roswell, New Mexico, was an American regionalist and realist painter, printmaker, and illustrator known for his landscape, figure, and genre paintings of New Mexico. He apprenticed in illustrator N.C Wyeth’s studio and later attended Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 1924.  The artist focused on capturing light and atmosphere, and many of his works depict panoramic views from his ranch land.  Although his preferred medium was tempera on gesso panel, he created many lithographs and watercolors and was also a muralist.
