Lucien Whiting Powell

Lucien Whiting Powell (1846-1930) was a renowned American landscape painter. After serving with the Confederate Army, Powell undertook formal study wth Thomas Moran at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and with Fitz at the London School of Art. Powell worked mainly with watercolour and oil to paint scenes from his travels in Venice, Egypt and the Holy Land, and American landscapes from Washington DC, the Grand Canyon and his native Northern Virginia.
