Lucien-Victor Guirand de Scevola

Lucien-Victor Guirand de Scévola (1871-1950) was a French painter known as a skilled pastellist and for his pioneering work in military camouflage. After studying at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, De Scévola gained fame in early 20th century as a portrait artist for the city’s high society. Known for his silky and smooth style, he was a member of the Société des Pastellistes Français and the Comité de la Société des Beaux-Arts de Paris. He was one of the inventors of military camouflage, which he developed as a leader of the French Camouflage Department during World War I.
