New-York based artist Lucien Smith (b. 1989) was born in Los Angeles and received his BFA from the Cooper Union School of Art in 2011. Smith is one of the most successful artists of his generation, with record breaking auction sales and critically acclaimed exhibitions. The artist is known for experimenting with materials, combining techniques and crossing boundaries between art genres. Smith’s practice often evokes themes of nature, nostalgia, and memory through the the processes of abstraction. He has worked with paint-filled fire extinguishers to create the famous Rain Paintings, as well as enamel and oil paint on canvas, photography, scrap metal, newspapers and found object combined in mixed-media wall assemblages and sculptures.
