Louise Brumback

American artist Louise Brumback (1867-1929) is best known for her floral still lives, marine, and landscape paintings. Born in Rochester, New York, Brumback attended William Merritt Chase’s Summer Art School for plein air painting in Shinnecock, Long Island. Credited with being one of the best women painters of her time, Brumback’s oil and watercolour paintings were shown in numerous galleries and public institutions, including eleven exhibitions at the National Academy of Design, New York. An art activist, she was president of The Gloucester Society of Artists and co-founded the New York Society of Women Artists, and member of many prestigious art societies.
