Louis Justin Laurent Icart was born in Toulouse, France, in 1880. The artist was interested in fashion at an early age and began drawing in his adolescence. Icart kept creating art in his spare time while he served in World War I, and upon his return, made a name for himself with his paintings, drawings, etchings and prints. His work epitomized the Art Deco style in Paris and New York. His subjects are often characterized by their playfulness and sensuality.
