Loetz Papillon

Loetz Papillon are décor vases produced by the 19th century glass manufacturer Johann Lötz Witwe.  The vases are characterized by their rich color palette and iridescent shades of glass.  In 1836, Johann Eisner established a glassworks in the Southern Bohemian town of Klostermühle, today part of the Czech Republic, that was later renamed and run by Suzanne Lötz, the widow of German glassmaker Johann Lötz. She led and expanded the company during the subsequent years, manufacturing mainly crystal, overlay, and painted glass. In 1898, the Candia Papillon décor was first produced. After she transferred the company to her grandson, the company continued to develop new, patented techniques and processes for creating glass.
