Jim Dine (b. 1935) is an American artist and poet involved in the formation of Conceptual Art “Happenings” and affiliated with Pop Art. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and graduated from Ohio University in 1957, before pursuing his artistic career in New York. He gained public recognition for his work on five Happenings in the early 1960s. The artist, however, returned to painting and creating mixed-media works and assemblages. He works in several media, ranging from painting, drawing, and mixed media to sculpture, photography, book illustration, and printmaking. The artist lives and works between New York, Paris, and Walla Walla, Washington.
